Day 10: Who is your favorite guest actor to appear in an episode of Doctor Who?

I’m actually not sure what it takes to qualify as a guest actor but I really like Tom Chadbon as Duggan from the classic serial City of Death.

In general, City of Death is probably my favorite serial ever. It’s just so fun and clever. I think Duggan really adds to the experience because the way he immediately resorts to violence nicely contrasts Four’s calm way of dealing with things. Plus his character leads to some great lines. Here are a few (probably not exact).

_________

Doctor: Romana?
Romana:  Yes?
Doctor: You know, I think something very funny’s going on. You remember that man that was following us?
Romana Yes.
Doctor: Well, he’s standing behind me, poking a gun in my back.

_________

Doctor: “Why is it that every time I’m trying to talk to someone you knock them unconscious?”

_________

Duggan: You know what I don’t understand?
Romana: I expect so.

_________

Romana: You should go into partnership with a glazier. You’d have a truly symbiotic working relationship.
Duggan: What?
Romana: I’m just pointing out that you break a lot of glass.
Duggan: You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs.
Romana: If YOU wanted an omelette, I’d expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames and an unconscious chef.

Day 05: What habit of the Doctor’s makes you laugh the most?
Would you like a jelly baby?
I can’t exactly explain this very well, but there is something so endearing about a man who “walks in eternity”, has enough cleverness to open a franchise of little shops, and has saved the entire universe several hundred times over being so very fond of a sweet. Every time I have the opportunity to witness him offer someone one of those candies I smile and giggle. I feel like I am witnessing something singularly beautiful whenever he holds up that paper bag, grins that mad grin, and offers up those six words.

And nothing puts a deadly enemy off balance so much as offering him candy.

Day 01: Which regeneration of The Doctor would you most want to meet and why?

Fourth, for sure. He’s less outlandish than other incarnations, but I think that’s more fun in a way because he leaves you very unbalanced. Like you never quite know when he’s being serious.

Also, hanging out with the Doctor back in his day seemed a lot less dangerous. Sure, you got into mortal danger all the time and saved planets and such, but really it was just a bit of fun. Mostly you’d just run around, have a good time, and then get dumped off somewhere. Rather than, say, being sent to a parallel universe, having all your memories erased to prevent your brain exploding, or having your half-time lord daughter kidnapped and raised as a weapon.

I’ll skip all the drama, thanks.
